Edo-Style Small Toys: Nakamise

Sukeroku is the only store in Japan that has been selling Edo hobby small toys since the end of the Edo period. There is a reason why we are particular about small toys and bean toys instead of just toys. During the reign of the 8th Shogun Yoshimune, a ban on extravagance was imposed, and the large, lavishly decorated toys enjoyed by wealthy townspeople were outlawed.

We are a women’s clothing store located on the Asakusa Public Hall side of Ichifuku Koji. Our store is directly managed by the manufacturer with a full line of cotton voile and wool voile products made purely in Japan.

Festival Goods: Asakusa Nakaya

A specialty store specializing in festival goods founded in 1910. The main store, located near Sensoji Temple and Senso Shrine, is in front of “Bentenzan no Kanezukido,” famous for the temple bell on New Year’s Eve, and is marked by a signboard in the shape of Senja-fuda (a type of paper signboard used at many shrines).
