Asakusa Hanayashiki
Asakusa Hanayashiki, Japan’s oldest amusement park, was established in 1853 (Kaei 6) at the end of the Edo period. The park was originally established as a flower garden “Hanayashiki” by landscape gardener Rokusaburo Morita, which mainly featured peony and chrysanthemum work. Today, it is home to 18 attractions, including the oldest existing roller coaster in Japan, the classic merry-go-round, and the “Haunted House” renewed for the 170th anniversary, as well as “MARUHANA Enka” (Maruhana fair), where visitors can enjoy the festive atmosphere of matoatsuke and wakkanage, and restaurants. The “MARUHANA Enka” is a cute and retro sightseeing spot in Asakusa that is popular among people of all ages.
