How has the Asakusa area changed in the last 10 years?

In 2024, Asakusa Merchants Associationcelebrates its 75th anniversary. Asakusa is now visited daily by numerous people from all over the world and from all over Japan. The term “overtourism” has been coined. The clientele is also changing.

Every day in Asakusa is a series of changes. We have sensed the changes, but we could not really understand them in concrete numbers. Therefore, we decided to take the time to check the “now” of Asakusa, and conducted a survey to “objectively recognize the changes” by comparing our own shopping district in Asakusa with the Asakusa Merchants Associationmembership list (2007), while actually walking the shopping district with the board members of Asakusa Merchants Associationand others.
